Flute transposition

The Flute is a concert-pitch (C) instrument — written and sounding notes are the same, so the tuner shows concert pitch.

Which note to tune on

Most bands tune to concert B♭4. On the Flute that is a written B♭4: play it, hold it steady, and adjust until the display turns green.

How to tune your Flute

1. Warm up for a minute first — a cold instrument plays flat.
2. Click Start Tuning, allow the microphone, and play a long, steady note at a medium volume.
3. If the meter leans left (flat), push the tuning slide, barrel, neck or head joint in slightly; if it leans right (sharp), pull it out.
4. Check a few other notes across the range — every instrument has notes that naturally lean sharp or flat.
